Tijdens de Week van de Smaak organiseert de Eemlandhoeve met het 'Boergondisch feestmaal' een heerlijk diner met rondleiding door de boer. Het Boergondisch feestmaal is een landelijke campagne om mensen op culinaire en educatieve wijze kennis te laten maken met biologisch eten uit eigen ommeland. Bewoners van Hoofdstad van de Smaak Amersfoort, maar natuurlijk ook daarbuiten, kunnen op donderdag 4 oktober, vrijdag 5 oktober of zaterdag 6 oktober een avond lang genieten van een Boergondisch feestmaal bij biologische veehouderij de Eemlandhoeve in Bunschoten. Ruim 33 biologische boeren in verschillende streken van Nederland verzorgen een buitengewoon culinair onthaal in de tuinderij, de stal of wei of in de boerenschuur. De chef-kok po de Eemlandhoeve kookt speciaal voor deze gelegenheid een bijzonder viergangen menu met de dagverse biologische oogst van de streek. Het verhaal over de biologische landbouw maakt onderdeel uit van het programma. Het Boergondisch feestmaal is een initiatief van biologische boeren, Stichting Van Eigen Erf en het Netwerk Biologische InfoCentra. Het Boergondisch feestmaal op de biologische vleesveehouderij de Eemlandhoeve is een smaakvol evenement, dat start om 16.30 uur op donderdag 4 oktober, vrijdag 5 oktober of zaterdag 6 oktober.

De biologische landbouw is structureel tegengewerkt, door overheid, industrie en landbouwhogeschool. Het gangbare boeren, met een zo hoog mogelijke productie tegen de laagst mogelijke kosten, kreeg voorrang. Dat zegt historicus en oud-groente- en fruitteler Dick Hollander. Hollander schreef het proefschrift ‘Tegen beter weten in' over de biologische landbouw in Nederland, waarop hij in mei aan de Universiteit Utrecht promoveerde. "De biologische landbouw heeft in Nederland amper een kans gehad om te ontluiken en te laat een kans gehad om te groeien. Overheid, het machtige ministerie van landbouw, wetenschap en de chemische- en voedingsindustrie hebben er alles aan gedaan om de biologische landbouw tegen te werken", aldus Hollander. Het mag een wonder worden genoemd dat er nog biologische landbouw in Nederland werd bedreven, stelt Hollander vast.

Nachdem das Grundwasser im Raum Korneuburg massiv mit Pestiziden belastet ist, kann sich die Bezirkshauptmannschaft die Kontaminierung noch immer nicht erklären. Die Umweltschutzorganisation Global 2000 hat nun Anzeige gegen Unbekannt erstattet. Nach wie vor ungeklärt ist, wie es zur Verseuchung des Grundwassers im Bereich zwischen Leobendorf und Korneuburg mit Herbiziden gekommen ist. Bereits vor zwei Jahren wurde das Grundwasser durch einen anderen Giftstoff verunreinigt, die neuerliche Kontaminierung, die Anfang dieses Monats bekannt geworden ist, kann sich die Bezirkshauptmannschaft noch immer nicht erklären. Es geht um Chlopyralid, das ist ein Unkrautvernichtungsmittel, das in einer mehr als 500-fachen Überdosis im Grundwasser enthalten sein soll. Das haben Messungen von Global 2000 ergeben.

A senior Democratic lawmaker on Wednesday questioned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's decision not to suspend use of an insecticide linked to massive bee die-offs, asking the agency to explain what steps it is taking to ensure there is sufficient scientific understanding of the issue. Describing bees as “vital to our nation's economy and food security,” Rep. Ed Markey, D-Mass., wrote a letter to the EPA expressing concern about widespread bee deaths that environmental advocacy groups say are associated with use of Bayer AG-developed pesticide clothianidin.

Reading people are being urged to get busy as a national bee campaign takes to the streets on Saturday. The activities are all part of The Bee Cause, an initiative organised by the Friends of the Earth, who called for a nationwide day of action to draw attention to how the use of chemicals in farming and horticulture are posing a threat to the nation’s bees. A University of Reading report, Decline of England’s Bees, found that increased use of insecticides used on crops pollinated by bees was having a dire effect on bees, and the increased use of herbicides was destroying important food sources for them too.

There is a new American video documentary about the global death of honeybees, bumblebees and other pollinators. This hard-hitting film lays the blame for this global ecological crisis firmly on the doorstep of the government regulatory agencies in America and Europe - working in collusion that verges on open conspiracy with the giant pesticide companies. The film has been produced by Earth Focus in the USA, working closely with PANNA - Pesticide Action Network North America, Beyond Pesticides and a variety of independent beekeepers, notably Tom Theobald and Dave Hackenburg.

The attached report by Dr. Rosemary Mason and Palle Uhd Jepsen provides evidence that, unwittingly or otherwise, a long-term strategy has existed with the aim of putting the pesticides industry in charge of human health and biodiversity. Over the last 20 years or so, a series of new products have been authorised by Regulatory Authorities around the world. Two in particular, the systemic neonicotinoid insecticides and genetically-engineered crops have caused gross contamination of the environment.

Dat vindt tuinder Isabel Duinisveld van de 'Good Food March'. Daarom gaat ze op de fiets langs allerlei bio-boeren dwars door Nederland op weg naar Brussel. De fietsgroep van de Good Food March kwam zaterdag 25 augustus aan op het biologisch-dynamisch (BD) bedrijf van Jan, Mariet en Rick Overesch in Raalte. Isabel Duinisveld, initiatiefnemer van deze tocht en zelf ook BD-boer, rijdt met steeds wisselende groepen deelnemers in 16 etappes van Uithuizermeeden in de kop van Groningen naar Brussel.Op 19 september wordt daar namelijk vergaderd over hervormingen in de Europese landbouw. De aandacht voor biologische landbouw is politiek gezien nog altijd een ondergeschoven kindje, vindt de sector. Gemeentelijk, provinciaal maar bijvoorbeeld ook Europees zou het meer aandacht moeten krijgen. "Op het ecologische landbouwbedrijf van Overesch toonden Jan en Mariet dat hun varkens alle ruimte hebben", aldus een persbericht van de initiatiefnemers. "Als ze zin hebben, kunnen ze een modderbad nemen of in de weide scharrelen. Het voer is biologisch en de mest wordt weer voor groente- en graanteelt gebruikt. De biggetjes blijven lang bij de moeder en gaan, als ze groter zijn, naar een grotere groep." Overesch: "Gezonde landbouw moet je beleven. Als je het zelf niet hebt gezien, kun je er ook niet over praten."

Rachel Carson would be horrified – our bees and insect-eating birds become scarcer year by year and there is overwhelming evidence pointing to neonicotinoid pesticides as a major cause, but the UK government's “Advisory Committee on Pesticides” has decided not to ban them, unlike some other countries (Michael McCarthy, 7 September). Only the agrochemical industry will rejoice. For the rest of us, food will become more costly as we lose crop pollinators and the sound and soul of our summer countryside withers and is silenced. Government should be ashamed, and there is no point paying farmers to plant “bee banks” and “nectar borders” if you then spray the bees to death.

This month is the 50th anniversary of the publication of "Silent Spring," Rachel Carson's landmark book calling attention to the harmful effects of chemical pesticides, specifically DDT. She charged that pesticides caused food contamination, cancer, genetic defects and the elimination of entire species. In a CBS documentary, Carson said, "Man's attitude toward nature is today critically important simply because we have now acquired a fateful power to alter and destroy nature. But man is a part of nature, and his war against nature is inevitably a war against himself."
